I've been reading George MacDonald again. I have a lot of his books, at one time almost every modern translation. I'm rereading the Thomas Wingfold, Curate series. These three books deal with spiritual awakening, why man should believe in God, why Jesus talked so much about doing, loving mankind as God loves them, and why affliction is God's tool for perfecting us.
I'm currently reading The Lady's Confession (original title "Paul Faber, Surgeon") It contains my favorite MacDonald quote of all time, maybe because I cannot understand it yet:
Is it so very hard to wait for that which we cannot yet receive? Shall we complain of the shadows cast upon the mirrors of our souls by the hand and the polishing cloth, to receive more excellent glory? Have patience, children of the Father. Pray always, and do not faint. The mists and the storms and the cold will pass; the sun and the sky are forever. The most loving of you cannot imagine how one day the love of the Father will make you love. Even your own."
I have an interview with the Public Library system on Tuesday. It is only a library page position, but it gives me access to the system. I also have an application in at Lowes, but the rotating schedule at the library would preclude having a second job.
Neither position would provide what we think is enough to live on. It is therefore my challenge to simply take what the Father gives. And trust that He knows much better than I what is needed.
I will admit, I do not love mankind as Jesus did. Hopefully, that will change.
